Attorney General Letitia James (N.Y.), who was in charge of the probe which led to the resignation of Andrew Cuomo, officially announced her bid for governor.
James announced her gubernatorial campaign on Twitter on Friday. Her bid sets up a primary challenge to current Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.), who became the first female governor in the state after taking over Cuomo’s role.
The Democrat said she has the experience, vision and courage to take on the power on behalf of all New Yorkers.

“I’ve taken action to divest our pension funds from fossil fuels. I’ve held accountable those who mistreat and harass women in the workplace, no matter how powerful the offenders. I’ve fought for affordable housing and worked to eliminate the NRA,” James said in her campaign video.
If she wins the election, James would become the nation’s first Black female governor.
