Another round of New York state lawmakers are calling for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation as the Democrat continues to battle a series of scandals.
In a statement Thursday, New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heasti announced he has authorized the Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment investigation after a sixth woman came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, allegedly went to the Albany Police Department to report Cuomo had touched her inappropriately at the governor’s mansion late last year after she was called in for a work-related project.
As revelations have unfolded regarding Cuomo’s alleged behavior, a majority of state lawmakers have begun campaigning for his removal. Two letters, one by 20 state Republicans and the other by 59 Democrats, were sent to the governor this week demanding he step down from office. One Democrat assemblywoman, who signed the letter, said the recent allegations against the governor are taking away from the work at hand.
“This latest one is a new level, the sixth one raises to a new level,” stated assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, (D). “I have tremendous respect for our attorney general, but this one is a new level…it can lead to other charges or higher levels beyond sexual harassment and that will remain to be seen.”

Since the newest allegations, even New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has heavily criticized Cuomo and called the claims “deeply troubling.”
“It’s not one, it’s not two, it’s not three, it’s not four, it’s not five…it’s six women who have come forward, it’s deeply troubling,” he stated. “The specific allegation that the governor called an employee of his, someone who he had power over, called them to a private place and then sexually assaulted her is absolutely unacceptable.”
While speaking to reporters earlier this week, Cuomo denied the multiple sexual harassment allegations by claiming he never made such advancements.
“This is very simple, I never touched anyone inappropriately,” he claimed. “As I said last week, I never made any inappropriate advances, no one ever told me at the time that I made them feel uncomfortable.”
Despite ongoing and increasing scrutiny, the Democrat governor has said he has no intention of stepping down.
