Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) denounces members of the “Squad” For their protest on Friday at a vote to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN, from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, attacked Republicans in a heated House speech. “racism against Muslim Americans.” Mace retorted that the Squad was a bunch of scum. “drama queens.” She opposed initially the resolution to boot Omar. However, she reversed her position at the last moment and supported the move for Omar to be expelled on grounds of her alleged Antisemitism.
OMAR OUSTER: HERE ARE OUR ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST DEMOCRAT’S COMITTEE REMOVAL
“I would say that was complete drama queens on full display. And there’s no surprise there that they would use racism as an excuse. They weren’t there two years ago when Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar were being kicked off. They weren’t using that as an excuse. And it’s really unbelievable. But it’s very typical of the Squad to see that kind of behavior on the floor,” Mace Submitted Fox News.
Kevin McCarthy, the House Speaker (Republican-California), urged his members to pass a resolution to expel Omar from the committee. He cited Omar’s past comments, including a 2012 tweet in which Omar stated, “Israel has hypnotized the world.” Omar, a supporter of Palestinian rights in Israel has since apologized. Ocasio-Cortez (D-MI) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, her colleagues, rallied behind her.
“There is nothing consistent about the Republican Party’s continued attack except for racism and incitement of violence against women of color in this body,” Ocasio-Cortez said, claiming that Omar was being targeted because she was black and Muslim, not because of her comments.
“I had a member of the Republican caucus threaten my life and the Republican caucus rewarded him with one of the most prestigious committee assignments in this Congress.”

“You are showing who you all are really. I and Congresswoman Omar will not be silenced. To Congresswoman Omar, I am so sorry, sis, that this country is failing you today through this chamber,” Tlaib made the declaration in an emotional speech. Omar and Tlaib both represent Muslims in Congress.
Many Democrats accuse Republicans of seeking political revenge over Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D–CA) removal of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, (R-GA), and then later Paul Gosar(R-AZ) being assigned to committee assignments during previous Congresses. McCarthy moved last week to stop Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from being on the House Intelligence Committee.

Mace initially refused to allow McCarthy to approve Omar’s ouster along with Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-IN. This could have potentially endangered the initiative due to Republicans’ slim 222-213 House majority. After negotiating with McCarthy, she eventually accepted support. This was to ensure that members who are in danger of losing their assignments to committees were given due process.
Democrats unanimously opposed Omar’s removal motion, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefries (D-NY), announced plans for Omar’s removal to the House Budget Committee.
Vote to remove the highly partisan candidate @Ilhan It wasn’t about accountability.
It was political revenge.
I will immediately move to place Rep. Omar on House Budget Committee.
She will defend Democratic values from right-wing extremism.
