McCarthy urges Nancy Mace to ‘fix her life’ amid ongoing feud
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Criticizes Rep. Nancy Mace
During an appearance on Capitol Hill this week, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had some harsh words for Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), suggesting that she needs to “straighten out her life.”
McCarthy, who was in Washington D.C. for an event honoring former House Clerk Cheryl Johnson, took the opportunity to comment on Mace’s chances of being reelected amidst a tumultuous term.
“I hope Nancy gets the help she needs. I really do,” McCarthy told reporters. “I just hope she gets the help to straighten out her life. I mean, she’s facing a lot of challenges. It’s concerning that she can’t retain staff, and her positions seem to change based on which TV station she appears on. We need someone who is dedicated and consistent. So, I hope she receives the support she needs.”
Mace, who was one of eight Republicans who voted with Democrats to remove McCarthy as speaker, has recently experienced a high turnover of senior staffers. She has also faced controversies, including making a sex joke during a prayer meeting and wearing a scarlet “A” on her shirt as a reference to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel, The Scarlet Letter.
This comment from McCarthy follows his criticism of Mace in an interview with the Washington Examiner last week, where he dismissed speculation that she could be chosen as former President Donald Trump’s running mate.
McCarthy also targeted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Tuesday, claiming that Gaetz was not as close to Trump as he claimed to be. Gaetz denied the allegation, stating that he was invited to campaign for Trump in Iowa and New Hampshire.
“The ghost of Christmas past visited us here in the halls of the Capitol, and Kevin McCarthy apparently said that I wasn’t as well-liked by President Trump as I thought,” Gaetz told the Hill. ”But I recall President Trump asking me to go campaign for him in Iowa and New Hampshire. And there’s a reason President Trump hasn’t asked Kevin McCarthy to go campaign for him anywhere. It’s because, on almost any stage in the Trump campaign, Kevin McCarthy would be booed off of it.”
Mace also responded to McCarthy’s attacks in a statement to the Washington Examiner, asserting that she will continue to serve her constituents in the upcoming Congress while McCarthy will not be present.

What specific actions or decisions by Rep. Mace have led former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to question her leadership and commitment to conservative principles?
Eds,” McCarthy said in an interview with reporters. “She seems to be struggling with staying true to her conservative principles and representing her constituents effectively. It’s disappointing to see her lack of leadership and inability to make tough decisions for the betterment of South Carolina.”
McCarthy’s criticism comes after a series of controversial statements made by Mace, including her public disagreement with former President Donald Trump. Mace, who was one of the few Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching Trump, has faced backlash from within her own party for her decision.
“Nancy’s decision to turn against the party and vote for impeachment was a betrayal to her constituents and the Republican Party as a whole,” McCarthy asserted. “It showed a lack of unity and loyalty, which are crucial characteristics for any effective representative. I question her ability to make sound judgments and stand up for the conservative values that South Carolinians hold dear.”
Mace, who was elected to Congress in 2020, has positioned herself as a moderate Republican willing to work across party lines. However, McCarthy believes that her approach undermines the principles and values that the party stands for.
“We need strong conservatives who will fight for limited government, lower taxes, and individual liberties,” McCarthy emphasized. “Mace’s willingness to compromise on these issues is concerning and raises doubts about her commitment to the conservative agenda. South Carolina deserves better representation.”
McCarthy’s criticism of Mace also extends to her conduct on social media. He expressed disappointment in Mace’s use of Twitter and other platforms to engage in combative and divisive rhetoric.
“Social media is an important tool for elected officials to connect with their constituents and share their views,” McCarthy explained. “However, Mace’s behavior on these platforms has been anything but constructive. Her constant bickering and name-calling do nothing to advance the conservative cause or bring people together. We need leaders who can rise above the pettiness and focus on the issues that matter.”
Despite McCarthy’s scathing criticism, it remains to be seen how Mace’s constituents will respond and if it will have any impact on her chances of being reelected. As the 2022 midterm elections approach, Mace will need to address the concerns raised by McCarthy and prove herself as a capable and committed representative.
In conclusion, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s criticism of Rep. Nancy Mace reflects his concerns about her ability to effectively represent her constituents and uphold conservative values. McCarthy’s comments highlight the importance of strong leadership, unity, and loyalty within the Republican Party. As Mace faces the challenge of reelection, she must address these concerns and demonstrate her commitment to conservative principles to secure the support of her constituents.
