Nancy Mace says China is playing ‘Chinese checkers’ against Trump’s chess moves – Washington Examiner
Rep.Nancy Mace (R-SC) expressed her belief that President donald Trump’s strategy regarding tariffs outmaneuvers China’s tactics, describing the U.S.-China trade situation as a game where “we’re playing chess, [and] China is playing checkers.” Mace pointed out that Trump’s enforcement of tariffs encourages other countries to engage with the U.S. Moreover, despite Trump recently pausing most of his tariffs, he has increased tariffs against China to 145%. Mace argued that Trump’s approach helps protect U.S. interests and suggested that it could disentangle the U.S. from reliance on Chinese markets, thereby diminishing China’s influence in global trade. Contrarily, chinese officials responded with criticisms, including a social media post referencing former leader Mao Zedong and highlighting the irony of “Make America Great Again” hats being made in China. This exchange underscores the ongoing tensions between the two nations regarding trade policies and market strategies.
Nancy Mace says China is playing ‘Chinese checkers’ against Trump’s chess moves
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) contended that President Donald Trump’s use of tariffs would outplay China’s strategy, noting how other countries have sought to negotiate with the United States due to Trump’s threat of tariffs.
Trump announced a pause on most of the administration’s “Liberation Day” tariffs on Wednesday, though the tariffs against China have been increased to 145%. Mace, who argued Trump is not allowing the U.S. to be “taken for granted” by remaining bullish on tariffs, said that Trump’s recent actions spotlighted how the U.S.’s stock markets withstood the storm following his tariff announcement.
“Now, when we all saw China’s market tank on Monday, the United States’s market is much stronger than China’s, and we held up on Monday,” Mace said on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus. “And so I think it’s very important that we understand we’re playing chess, China is playing checkers. Chinese checkers, in fact, and so I think what Trump is doing is brilliant.”
Mace continued by saying that Trump is doing “a fine job” managing tariffs and that voters like her trust the president to use them to leverage favor back to the U.S. Going forward, she urged the administration to “untangle” the U.S. from China and its markets, as this would weaken China’s control of global trade.
Amid the feud, Chinese Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning posted a video of former Chinese dictator Mao Zedong, in which he vowed to continue fighting the Korean War. Ning has also posted a photo of multiple “Make America Great Again” hats increasing in price and all with “made in China” tags, even though the official hats supporting Trump are made in the U.S.

WHY TRUMP’S CHINA TARIFFS ARE GOOD, AND HIS 10% TARIFFS FOR OTHERS ARE BAD
Shark Tank host and businessman Kevin O’Leary went viral this week when he advocated that the U.S. impose a 400% tariff on China and “squeeze Chinese heads into the wall.” He said that China does not “play by the rules” and that he and other consumers have had “enough.”
White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Thursday morning that trade deals are “moving fast” after almost 20 countries sent proposals to the U.S.
