Nancy Mace ups feud with House progressive: ‘Want to take it outside?’

Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Jasmine Crockett’s (D-TX) quarrel over transgender policy erupted during a House committee meeting this week.

At a House Oversight Committee meeting on Tuesday, Crockett appeared to mock Mace for her vocal opposition to allowing transgender women into private spaces for females, such as bathrooms and locker rooms.

“Somebody’s campaign coffers really are struggling right now. So she can’t keep saying ‘trans, trans, trans,’ so that people will feel threatened. And child, listen,” Crockett said.

Her words launched a brief showdown as the two lawmakers went for the jugular, yelling over each other as committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) begged for order.

Mace shot back: “I am no child! Do not call me a child. I am no child. Don’t even start, I am a grown woman, 47 years old.”

“I have broken more glass ceilings,” Mace continued as Crockett continued to speak at the same time. “I am not a child, I am a grown woman. If you want to take it outside.”

The incident comes after Mace attracted harsh criticism from Democrats for introducing a bill prohibiting biological men from using women’s bathrooms in the Capitol.

Democrats largely view the legislation as anti-trans and hateful, particularly because it was introduced when Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) was elected as the first transgender member of Congress.

Mace, who was raped at age 16, has argued her bill protects females who are fearful of sharing vulnerable spaces with transgender women who may still retain biologically male sexual characteristics.

Her fight with Crockett on Tuesday stemmed from an amendment the progressive lawmaker introduced during the committee hearing to reinstate a subcommittee on civil rights and civil liberties. Mace called her motion “hypocritical,” citing Democrats’ opposition to her transgender bathroom bill.

“So we’re talking about civil rights … and we were talking about the infringement of individual people also, quote ‘The right to privacy’ of individuals coming from a party that can’t define what a woman is and won’t give women the right to privacy,” Mace said. “You want women to be forced to undress in front of men in the locker room and in dressing rooms, and it’s it’s so hypocritical for you to sit here and say and be, you know, screaming from rooftops about right to privacy and civil rights, when you don’t respect women and you don’t respect women who’ve been raped.”

Following the incident, Mace said she hadn’t been suggesting a physical fight with Crockett.

“That’s not what this was,” she said in a post to X. “I won’t be bullied by someone who wants to take away women’s rights while lecturing about civil rights. I won’t be bullied by someone who thinks being scared of rape is a ‘fantasy.’”

Crockett suggested later on during the committee hearing that Mace’s stance on transgender policy constituted an attack on “the most vulnerable” members of society.

The Texas progressive continued to ridicule Mace in a later post to X, calling her “an attention-seeking loser.”

“Republicans incite violence from the highest levels of government & ALSO claim to be the party of law & order. The two cannot be true! Do yourself a favor, decide to require better of your electeds. Last I checked, threatening members in a committee room doesn’t exactly reduce the cost of eggs,” Crockett said.
