Nancy Pelosi blasts the Supreme Court and says it has ‘gone rogue’ – Washington Examiner
Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, expressed her loss of confidence in the Supreme Court, stating that she believes it has “gone rogue.” In an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, Pelosi criticized the Supreme Quality particularly after the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision. She questioned the integrity and direction of the Supreme Court justices, including Chief Justice John Roberts, and showed concern about their impartiality and the influence of their personal beliefs on judicial decisions. Additionally, Pelosi touched on other Supreme Court issues and cases related to children’s rights in the womb.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) blasted the Supreme Court on Monday night. She said she no longer believed in it and claimed it had gone rogue.
During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Monday Night, while discussing the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade, Pelosi was asked about her confidence in the Supreme Court and what she thought about the judicial branch.
“Do you have confidence in the Supreme Court?” Cooper asked Pelosi. “They have yet to rule on this immunity thing. All this about Alito and the flags, and Clarence Thomas and his wife, I mean, do you have confidence in the Supreme Court?”
“No, I think they’ve gone rogue,” Pelosi said. “It’s most unfortunate. But it’s unfortunate further to see what the other justices, what happened to the Chief Justice? Did he go weak, or did he go rogue? I don’t know. And that’s the same thing with these members of Congress, if I can take it back to that…So no, I don’t have confidence in the Supreme Court.”
Pelosi then mentioned more about the case that focused on protecting the lives of children in the womb. She accused the Supreme Court justices of injecting their personal beliefs and perspectives into court rulings and blasted them for doing so.
“I respect their point of view. If they have a point of view about a woman’s right to choose,” Pelosi said. “But that’s not what they’re there to do, to advocate for a point of view. Run for Congress. They’re there to uphold the Constitution of the United States.”
Pelosi then referenced the confirmation hearings for some of the Court’s newer justices. She emphasized that they said they respected the Court’s precedents during the hearings.
“And many of them said in their hearings for confirmation, they said that they supported the precedents of the Court,” Pelosi said. “The precedents of the Court supported the privacy in the Constitution. And what did they do? They vote their opinion on policy rather than the oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States.”
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization isn’t the first time in the country’s history that a court case went against precedent. It has happened before, most notably the 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. In this case, the Supreme Court went against precedent to overturn the 1896 decision in Plessy v. Ferguson, establishing a constitutional right of segregation in the infamous “separate but equal” doctrine.

Pelosi concluded the discussion about the Supreme Court by mentioning that she wanted the Court to return to the way the Founders intended it. She implied that doing so was the only way the judicial branch could earn back its respect.
“So I want us to get back to a place where the three branches of government, as our Founders initiated, are respected across the board. But I don’t have a lot of confidence in this Court,” Pelosi said.
