NASCAR Driver Cody Ware Arrested on Felony “Assault by Strangulation” Charge, Suspended Indefinitely
Cody Ware, a NASCAR Cup Series driver, has been arrested and charged with felony assault by strangulation that caused serious injury. This arrest has led to NASCAR banning him indefinitely, according to Fox News.
On April 10, 2023, Ware was arrested in his home state of North Carolina and was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female in addition to the felony charge. Ware was released later on a $3,000 bond. This arrest reportedly arose from an alleged domestic violence incident that took place in Mooresville, N.C. on April 3, 2023, just before midnight.
According to Rick Ware Racing, Ware’s team which is owned by his father, the racing team was aware of the incident regarding Cody Ware and his indefinite suspension from NASCAR competition, and they respected NASCAR’s decision. The racing team added that the matter is still under investigation, and Ware is fully cooperating with the authorities. They plan to continue their multi-car efforts in the NASCAR Cup Series and are in the process of finalizing their plans for the No. 51 entry at Martinsville Speedway.
ESPN reported that there were no weapons involved in the incident, and details of the assault have not been made available as it was a domestic violence situation. Cody Ware ranks 31st in the Cup Series standings, and he has been racing in the series since 2017, with his best finish being sixth place over 97 career races.
Earlier in 2023, Kyle Busch, one of NASCAR’s biggest stars, was arrested in Mexico for “carrying a firearm without a license,” for which he was fined just over $1,000. Upon his return to the United States, Busch revealed the charge, stating that he has a “valid concealed carry permit” and that he adheres “to all handgun laws” in general.
