NASCAR Responds to Appeals Panel After They Rescind Points Penalty From Hendrick Motorsports Drivers and Teams
NASCAR expressed dissatisfaction over the rescinding of the 100 point penalty levied against Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Cup Series teams for “unapproved parts modifications” by the National Motorsports Appeal Panel.
The National Motorsports Appeal Panel reversed the decision on the point penalty for all four teams and drivers, in addition to restoring the 10 playoff points.
The penalization initially came as a result of a number of confiscated hood louvers that were deemed as “unapproved parts”. The team was subsequently found to be in violation of Sections 14.5.4.2.A of the NASCAR rulebook that covered the radiator duct assembly where they faced a USD 100,000 fine, together with the suspension of all four crew chiefs for four races.
While the National Motorsports Appeals Panel upheld the decision regarding the $100,000 fine and the 4-race suspensions of each crew chief, NASCAR highlighted the importance of the point penalty as a significant deterrent against the violation. They stated, “We will continue to inspect and officiate the NASCAR garage at the highest level of scrutiny to ensure a fair and level playing field for our fans and the entire garage.”
