Nashville Tragedy Shows Why It Isn’t Compassionate To Fuel Mental Illness

The recent tragedy in Nashville, where a transgender mass shooter killed several adults and three 9-year-olds in a targeted attack at a Christian elementary school, highlights the out-of-control mental health crisis in the United States.

The fact that a murderer would take the lives of defenseless children indicates a deep-rooted sickness within modern society. Blaming firearms as the cause of such tragedies is incorrect. Mental illness has proliferated within the last several decades, which shows that the characterization of this illness has dangerously evolved.

Although people may argue that transgender identity is not related to mental illness, it is crucial to understand that gender dysphoria and trans-related narcissism are connected to the ongoing mental health emergency in America. Examples of mental illness abound, and it is worrying how it has spread in many forms.

The Celebration of Sickness

In the previous several years, the casual acceptance and celebration of mental illness have become prevalent. Encouraging people to seek help and treatment is one thing, but glorifying the illness as something unique and special is another. This glorification includes teachers brainwashing children with gender confusion, parents indoctrinating their own children in falsehoods, and platforms like TikTok that portray people with self-loathing, split personalities, and nonsensical pronouns and sexual identities. Medical doctors have also contributed to the spread of delusion by pretending sex is “assigned” and by asking patients their preferred pronouns.

Even medical professionals who promote gender dysphoria are key players in encouraging mental instability. For instance, a group called the Trans Resistance Network blames conservatives for the “genocidal eradication of trans people from society,” and accuses them of passing legislation seeking to protect minors from chemical and surgical castration. However, this group fails to address the real problem, which is the mental health crisis that the trans-identifying people suffer from, and how they have become anxious, depressed, and suicidal due to a lack of acceptance from religious institutions.

The celebration of sickness is not the way to approach mental health issues. It would help if you were compassionate when engaging with people with mental health issues, but you must not glorify their illness. Instead, you should follow the steps of Jesus, who was moved with compassion when he encountered helpless people and engaged with them by healing them.

If left unchecked, mental illness could lead to targeted attacks and tragedies like that in Nashville. Progressive society should take note and form a much-needed solution.

Call to Action

As human beings, we should fight against spiritual forces that discourage us and tempt us to doubt and deny truth. We should be fighting for the beauty and sacredness of human life, for the mental and physical health of those within our care, and for the gospel’s glorious truth that leads to human flourishing.

Compassion is the biggest weapon that we have, and we must use it wisely to help those who are suffering from mental health issues.
