NBC News Faces Backlash for Downplaying Disturbing Chant at LGBT Pride Event
NBC News is facing criticism after publishing a fact-check that downplayed a concerning chant at an LGBT “pride” event. The article, authored by Tyler Kingkade, focused on a clip from a drag parade in New York City where marchers chanted, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children.”
The chant quickly went viral online, sparking outrage and concern.

Kingkade’s report seemed to downplay the extreme nature of the chant and offered a puzzling defense of the marchers. He claimed that the chant has been used for years at Pride events as a provocative expression to combat slurs against the LGBTQ community.
NBC News also featured Brian Griffin, the original organizer of the New York City Drag March, who defended the marchers by stating that words are just words and have no meaning.
However, the article received significant backlash online, with many pointing out the disturbing nature of the chant and the attempt to normalize or downplay a threat to young people.
