Nebraska man disguised as student faces sex crime charges.
Nebraska Man Poses as High Schooler, Commits Crimes Against Students
Police in Lincoln, Nebraska recently uncovered a shocking case involving a man who impersonated a high school student and allegedly committed crimes against other students. The suspect, Zachary Scheich, had been evading arrest on fraud charges until authorities received a tip about his fake identity.
Over the course of 54 days this academic year, Scheich attended Northwest and Southeast high schools, blending in with the student population. He even attended classes like a regular student, fooling both faculty and fellow students. However, as the investigation progressed, it was revealed that Scheich had additional contacts with juvenile students.
On June 1, police discovered that Scheich had committed even more serious crimes against high school-aged children. He now faces charges of sexual assault using an electronic device and sex trafficking of a minor. These charges carry severe penalties, including the possibility of life imprisonment.
Despite his deceptive tactics, authorities eventually located and arrested Scheich. Standing at 5’4″ and weighing around 120 pounds, he managed to blend in with the student body by using false documents to enroll in the schools. It was later revealed that Scheich had actually graduated from Lincoln Public Schools in 2015.
Scheich’s bail has been set at $25,000, and the chief deputy Lancaster County attorney has requested that he have no contact with victims or children under the age of 18. His next court date is scheduled for August 17.
