It can be difficult to find the right tile for your big kitchen remodel project. From ceramic and porcelain to stone, there are a number of options to choose from—each with its own advantages and drawbacks.

Let’s take a look at some basics of kitchen tile to make it easier for you to decide.

Stone

Stone tile is a great option if you want to give your kitchen a natural look and texture. However, there are also some downsides.

“It is a more expensive material, but the beauty and the individualism of natural stone speak volumes that justify the expense,” Westside Tile and Stone reported. “They do require special care, but when you follow the recommended regiment, they will always look beautiful. Some choices in natural stone are: marble, limestone, travertine, slate, granite (and) quartz.”

Granite is a low-maintenance stone option for kitchen floors. Marble offers a more varied selection of colors and textures than granite. You can find a stone that suits almost any style or needs.

Ceramic

Ceramic tiles made of non-porcelain are excellent for their versatility and affordability. Ceramic tiles are almost always the right choice for your kitchen’s purpose if they fit well.

“The tiles are made by shaping and firing a selection of clays and minerals to form a biscuit,” Fitzgerald Kitchens reported. “These are then glazed and can then be printed with a pattern or texture before firing them again.

“They are very practical, affordable and long-lasting. They are easy to clean and can be customized with a variety of finishes and designs thanks to their glazed surface.”

Porcelain

Fired at higher temperatures and forged from finer, denser clay, porcelain is ceramic’s high-performance counterpart. It’s tougher, more resistant and doesn’t stain as easily. For kitchens with heavy foot traffic, it doesn’t get much better than porcelain tiles.

“”Porcelain tiles are the undisputed king of floor and wall coverings. Express Flooring reported. “The tiles are heated to extremely high temperatures. This results in extremely durable, stain-resistant, and rigid tiles that are impenetrable by moisture. They can be placed in harsh places and can withstand extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold and severe weather for a long time.”
