New Florida Bill to Force Democrats to Rename Party Over Past Support of Slavery

Republican senator BlaiseIngoglia has proposed a bill to the Florida Senate which would force any party or organization that supports slavery to reregister as a new party.

While the bill was not filed by any party, but does mention one, the Democratic Party is clearly targeted because it has a long history of protecting the rights of slave owners as personal property.

According to the bill, the name of the party must change substantially from its current name.

It was titled “The”. “Ultimate Cancel Act” (SB 1248), would require the Florida State Division of Elections also to cancel party registration files and documentation. This includes voter registration of almost five million Florida Democrats.

Voters can reregister

Every Floridian who is currently a Democrat must be notified by the Division of Elections.

According to the bill, voter’s status as a Democrat will automatically change. “No Party Affiliation” A simple process would allow the voter to register with either the newly renamed or other active political parties.

The canceled party’s officials would still be allowed to hold their posts in the new party.

An application for reregistration must not be filed with the Division of Elections more than six months prior to any election where the political party seeking reregistration wants to nominate public officials.

The law will take effect July 1, 2023 if it is passed by both the legislative houses and signed by its governor.

It has comfortable majority in both the State Senate (and House of Representatives) for the Republican Party.

Ingoglia’s suggestion was immediately rejected by Florida Democratic Party. They responded quickly with ridiculing statements that said, “Presenting a bill that would disenfranchise 5 million voters is both unconstitutional and unserious.”

The Democrats called their proposal “a” in their statement. “publicity stunt,” He also urged Ron DeSantis (Republican Governor) and his party members to put their focus on “reforming property insurance, addressing housing affordability, and combating climate change.”

“The sooner DeSantis and his puppets in the legislature learn that Florida is a Democratic Republic and not a Banana Republic, the better off it will be for all Floridians,” They agreed.

Nikki Freid (chairperson Florida Democratic Party) continued her focus on DeSantis in a press conference. She described the bill’s actions as “the actions of an idiot”. “dictator.”

After eight years as a member of the State House of Representatives in Florida, Ingoglia was elected to the Florida State Senate 2022. He told reporters that the legislation was his own creation and that DeSantis wasn’t aware of it.

Florida’s Legislature is currently not in session. It will be back on March 14th.

Ingoglia, in a press release, defended his bill to right-wing activists who have been cancelling individuals and businesses over past statements and actions.

It was, he said. “hypocritical” Democrats should deface and remove statues, and rename buildings with any connections to slavery.

Recent online comments by Chairman Chris Ziegler of Republican Party of Florida further highlighted the hardball and hyperpartisan atmosphere of Florida politics.

Ziegler uploaded to social media. “I believe we need to keep every Democrat out of office until they stop pushing socialism, the defunding of the police, open borders, and targeting my children with indoctrination, woke concepts, and sexual content.”

A request by the press for comments from Governor’s Office was not answered.
