Tammy Murphy on⁣ Wednesday launched a campaign video announcing her run for Senate in The ‍Garden State.

In the video Murphy describes the programs she has created and run ⁢as first lady, focusing on maternal and infant mortality and changing the state’s education‌ requirements to include climate change.

“We need‍ a Senator who will work every single day to lower the cost of living, protect abortion rights, end the gun violence epidemic, and defend our democracy,” Murphy said in a statement accompanying the video.

The New Jersey⁢ first lady joins⁢ Representative Andy Kim (D-N.J.) in the Democrat ‍primary challenging Menedez⁣ (D-N.J.).

Menendez’ own political party⁢ has recently called for the disgraced Senator to resign from the‍ position while he ‍is being indicted on bribery allegations.

“Right now, ⁤Washington⁢ is filled with too many people⁤ more‌ interested in getting rich⁣ or getting on camera than getting things done for you,” Tammy Murphy said in her announcement video, while clips of Menendez and a few other senators were shown.

Meanwhile, Murphy⁢ has been serving as⁤ first lady of New Jersey since 2017, when her husband Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) became governor.

Additionally, Murphy may face a⁣ difficult task as she has never held an elected office position and may face backlash for her history of being a Republican dating back to 2010.

If elected, Murphy would become the‌ first woman ⁢to ever represent the New Jersey Senate.
