1/3 of Gen Z wants the government to add something to private homes, according to a new survey.
Survey Finds Young Americans More Open to Government Surveillance in Homes
A recent survey by the Cato Institute has found that 29% of Americans under 30 are in favor of the government installing surveillance cameras in every household. The survey aimed to determine public opinion on government surveillance and a Central Bank Digital Currency.
Interestingly, the second-highest level of support came from the 30-44 age group, with 20% of participants in favor of government surveillance in the home. However, support for the idea dropped dramatically among those aged 45 and over, with only 6% of respondents aged 45-64 and 5% of those over 65 in favor of the idea. Overall, 75% of those surveyed opposed the idea.
The survey also found that 33% of black Americans and 25% of Hispanics supported government surveillance at home, while only 9% of white Americans and 11% of Asian-Americans supported the idea.
Why the Divide?
Emily Ekins and Jordan Gygi, who wrote about the survey, suggest that older Americans may be more wary of government surveillance due to their experiences during the Cold War. Younger Americans, on the other hand, may be less aware of the dangers of expansive government power.
However, the survey has drawn sharp responses on Twitter, with some users expressing concern about the rise of a new attitude that could be dangerous.
America is so screwed if we don’t defeat the woke mind virus and woke cult.
It’s an Orwellian nightmare in the making.
