New Video Released Of Moments Leading Up To Arrest Of Reporter At Ohio Governor’s Press Conference
The Ohio State Highway Patrol released Thursday night body camera footage that gave more details about the events that led to the incident. Arrest Evan Lambert, NewsNation reporter, during a conference this week.
Lambert, a TV journalist who reports on the fiery 50-car train derailment Ohio: Wednesday’s arrest for speaking at Republican Ohio Governor. Mike DeWine’s press conference in East Palestine.
The video shows members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio National Guard Adjutant Gen John Harris approaching Lambert while he was reporting live in a school gymnasium. “I instinctively put my hands on his chest to keep him from bumping into me, which I felt was inevitable if I had not protected myself,” Harris claimed Harris in the statement.
Lambert was warned by several law enforcement officers to get out of the gym or face arrest.
“Do you know how quickly our lawyers can get me out?” Lambert replied. “I’m going to listen [to the briefing] because it’s my job. I’m trying to listen and he [Harris] escalated it with me. I’m doing my job that’s covered by the First Amendment.”
Lambert refused to leave the gym despite being asked several times. He was then taken to the hallway and placed under arrest.

Lambert was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief and was to remain in Columbiana County Jail over night. However, he was quickly released.
DeWine said Wednesday night that he didn’t ask for any reporters to be arrested and that it’s normal for reporters to speak on TV during his press conferences.
“Whoever was arrested had every right to be reporting and doing what they do every single day,” He stated.
Over the weekend, journalists from all over the country traveled to East Palestine (Ohio) after officials warned that burning chemicals could pose a serious health risk or cause an explosion. Officials vowed to charge people with misconduct during an emergency if they refused to leave — with upgraded charges if children were at risk.
Officials decided to control the release of chemicals in order to reduce the danger of explosion. According to Associated PressThe fires from this release have now been extinguished and residents can return to their homes Wednesday night.
Federal investigators have determined that the cause of the accident was an issue with a railcar axle.
