LOS ANGELES (Reuters)—The mayor of New York traveled to the Mexican border city of El Paso on Sunday and declared that “there is no room in New York” Busloads of migrants are being sent to America’s most populous cities.

Eric Adams, a Democrat, was also critical of the administration of Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden, saying “now is the time for the national government to do its job” The immigrant crisis at America’s southern border

It is a first for New York City that a mayor visits a city at the southern border to discuss immigration.

Republican-run states have shipped thousands of migrants north to New York City and other cities. This has led to a worsening housing crisis in New York as well as a rise in homeless issues in the city.

Adams’s El Paso trip comes after Adams said that the migrant inflow into New York could be as high as $2Billion. This is at a time when El Paso is already experiencing a budget crisis.

Recent months have seen thousands of migrants fleeing Florida and Texas to seek refuge in the United States. They were sent by Republican governors to New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
