NY Allocates $108M to Tackle COVID Learning Loss in Schools.
New York to Provide Over $100 Million in Funding to Support Children’s Education and Mental Health
In an effort to address the significant impact of strict lockdown measures on children’s education and mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that New York will allocate more than $100 million in funding to school districts.
On August 3, Governor Hochul revealed that a total of $108 million will be made available specifically for school districts and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) to utilize.
Supporting Education and Mental Health
This substantial funding aims to provide crucial support to school districts, enabling them to address the challenges and setbacks experienced by students due to the pandemic. By allocating these resources, New York aims to ensure that children receive the necessary assistance to overcome any educational gaps and mental health issues that may have arisen during the stringent lockdowns.
Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded approach, the funding will be utilized to implement various initiatives, programs, and services that cater to the unique needs of students. This includes additional tutoring, counseling services, mental health resources, and other educational support measures.
Empowering School Districts
The funding will be distributed to school districts and BOCES, empowering them to tailor their approaches based on the specific requirements of their students. This flexibility allows for a more personalized and effective response to the challenges faced by children in different communities across the state.
By investing in the education and mental well-being of New York’s youth, Governor Hochul and the state government are demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind as a result of the pandemic. This funding serves as a vital lifeline for school districts, enabling them to provide the necessary support and resources to help students thrive academically and emotionally.
“We understand the immense toll that the pandemic has taken on our children’s education and mental health. This funding will empower school districts to address these challenges head-on and ensure that our students have the support they need to succeed,” said Governor Hochul.
