New York Times Wildly Distorts State Bills Banning Critical Race Theory, Claims Republicans Want To Stop Teaching Slavery And Racism
Republicans – and parents – are revolting against having critical race theory taught to their children, yet Democrats and left-leaning media outlets continue to not only support the theory, but spread falsehoods about those who wish to keep it out of public schools and training.
Last Wednesday, The New York Times participated in perpetuating falsehoods against those who are trying to keep children from being taught that America is irredeemably racist and that all white people are inherently racist. In an article titled “Texas Pushes to Obscure the State’s History of Slavery and Racism,” the Times insists that the move to keep critical race theory out of public schools is a move to “ban teaching about the enduring legacies of slavery and segregationist laws, or that any state or the country is inherently racist or sexist”
As journalist Christopher Rufo noted on Twitter: “This is a USSR-level lie. None of the bills prohibit schools from teaching about slavery or racism; they prohibit schools from compelling students to believe in race essentialism, collective guilt, and racial superiority theory.”
As The Federalist reported, the Times is not the only outlet trying to obscure the truth surrounding the push from legislators, parents, and teachers to ban CRT from public schools:
While some outlets such as PolitiFact, the sham “fact-checker” website that has a clearly leftist bias, painted the CRT legislation popping up in multiple states as a way to make teachers “confin[e] their lessons to a limited view of American history and current events,” others tried to remain subtle and gaslight readers into believing that what is being taught to their kids isn’t CRT.
“Some educators across the U.S. expanded their curriculums on racial inequality in response to the turbulent year of protests against police brutality and disproportionate police violence against Black people,” ABC News reported last week. “Some curriculums now include more racialized historical events, such as the Tulsa race riot and the Rodney King case and the subsequent Los Angeles riots, that highlight the plight of Black and brown Americans in the United States. But those educators say their efforts are in danger due to these potential new restrictions on education.”
Despite the media’s efforts to push CRT on Americans, new polls suggest that U.S. voters overwhelmingly oppose critical race theory, especially in K-12 schools. A survey by the Competitive Edge Research and released by Parents Defending Education recently found that 74 percent of respondents are “somewhat or strongly opposed” to white privilege training and to schools communicating that non-white people are inherently oppressed.
As The Daily Wire has reported, multiple states have made similar moves to keep critical race theory out of schools. As Chrissy Clark recently reported, educators have tried to conceal critical race theory by leaving the term and some of its associated phrases out of curriculum, but the central theory – that America is irredeemably racist and every interaction should be viewed through the lens of a racial power struggle – remains.
“Of course, curriculum designers do not insert the words ‘critical race theory’ in children’s curriculum — they put it into practice by generating lessons that introduce racial grievances and calls for advocacy in virtually every subject,” Clark wrote.
Other states have moved to ban the theory as well, with the Tennessee State House passing a bill that would ban critical race theory. Idaho’s Republican governor signed such a ban into law, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, also a Republican, instructed the state education department to ban critical race theory from public schools. As The Daily Wire reported:
DeSantis updated the public on his state’s new educational priorities in a press conference. The governor said that the state’s civic education should focus on “foundational principles” rather than narratives such as critical race theory that views all of history through the lens of race, and suggests that racism still infects almost every institution in the U.S. today.
