The boy’s father had pulled him out of the pool and brought him to a lifeguard, but he had no pulse by the time they arrived. Morris, who had received training on how to use an automatic external defibrillator, saw the lifeguard performing CPR on the boy and immediately went for the AED.
“I was able to hand the AED to him, get it open for him, put the pads on the child, and he ended up being OK,” Morris said.
Morris cited the importance of AED training and awareness of lifesaving techniques, especially after incidents like Damar Hamlin’s on-field collapse during a Buffalo Bills game in January and Shaquil Barrett’s 2-year-old daughter drowning in April.
