Nicolas Cage Did A Reddit AMA: Here Are The Weirdest Questions (And Answers)

Actor Nicolas Cage participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) forum, and he really did take questions about everything — from his least favorite movie quote to have shouted at him by fans to his favorite pasta shape.

Cage did the AMA to promote his new film “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” — in which the Oscar-winning actor plays himself — which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 22.

Empire Magazine editor Nick de Semlyen quickly highlighted the question he thought was best — the one that revealed Cage’s favorite pasta shape, which he apparently discovered alongside fellow actor Charlie Sheen.

“I once went to an Italian restaurant in San Francisco about 25 years ago with Charlie Sheen,” Cage replied, noting that they had gone to that restaurant specifically to try pasta that came in the shape of a “square tube.” “We loved it so much we went back the next day to try it again.”

“What is your dream role that you have yet to complete?” another user asked.

“I would like to play Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo because of the character’s love of the ocean I share that with him,” Cage replied.

Another asked him about the movies he loved — specifically the ones he could watch “over and over” without ever getting tired of them. Cage gave two responses to that question: “Apocalypse Now,” and “Spirited Away.”

“One of your most fascinating performances to me was as Big Daddy in ‘Kick-Ass,’” another posted. “When you were crafting that performance, was Adam West the biggest inspiration for your superhero persona, or were there other sources you felt you drew more heavily from?”

Cage confirmed that he had, in fact, been inspired by the legendary “Batman” actor Adam West. “I would give it all to Adam West. I grew up watching him on the 60s Batman show and he is where it begins and where it ends as Big Daddy. I met Adam West once and I said, ‘Did you see I was channeling you?’ and he said, ‘I saw you TRY to channel me!’”

One jokingly addressed Cage as fellow actor John Travolta, playing on the fact that the two had switched identities in the movie “Face/Off.”

“Dear Mr. Travolta, How has life changed for you since changing faces with Nicholas Cage? Do you regret the decision or would you do it again?” the poster asked, prompting Cage to respond simply, “Hahahaha.”

Another asked whether he found himself annoyed by fans who yelled lines from his movies at him in public: “What’s the movie quote you hate most when strangers holler it at you in public?”

Cage said he wasn’t terribly bothered by fans doing that — and that to him it was just a sign that they enjoyed and remembered his work.

“I don’t have a problem with any of the quotes, I’m glad they remember the movie,” he said.

Cage also said that if only three of his films could be preserved for the sake of posterity, the ones he would choose would be “Pig,” “Bringing Out The Dead,” and “Leaving Las Vegas.”
