Nikki Haley sparks controversy with ‘Finish them!’ inscription on Israeli artillery shell
Former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley faced criticism for inscribing “Finish them!” on an Israeli artillery shell during a visit to Israel’s border. She also toured areas impacted by recent attacks, prompting backlash from various groups and individuals, including condemnations from the Council on American-Islamic Relations and Amnesty International USA. Actor John Cusack and host Cenk Uygur also expressed strong disapproval of Haley’s actions.
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley came under fire after writing “Finish them!” on an Israeli artillery shell.
Haley scrawled the message on the 155 mm artillery shell during a trip to Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. She also visited sites of Hamas‘s Oct. 7 attack along the border with Gaza, including the sight of the Nova music festival massacre.
“Finish them! America [heart] Israel always,” Haley wrote alongside her signature.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations released a lengthy statement denouncing Haley over the message.
“Only a genocidal anti-Palestinian racist could sign ‘finish them‘ on the same type of artillery shells that the Israeli government has used to slaughter innocent Palestinians for months, including dozens of women and children burned to death in the horrific May 26th attack,” it wrote, referring to the death of dozens of Palestinian civilians over a fire Palestinian authorities alleged was started by an Israeli airstrike.
“Nikki Haley’s grotesque display of support for Israel’s genocide follows her previous call for Palestinian refugees to be ethnically cleansed from their land and forced into neighboring countries,” it added. “By championing U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians following a tour of illegal Israeli settlements, Haley marks herself as a shameless advocate for occupation and genocide.”
Amnesty International USA condemned Haley’s move as well, saying, “Conflict is no place for stunts.”
Actor John Cusack delivered a string of vehement denunciations on his X account, calling Haley a “Nazi,” “vicious thuggette,” “ghoul,” “fascist,” “sociopath,” and “criminally insane,” among other things.
“What can you say about a human being who writes this? You could tell her to go to HELL but she’s already in it,” he wrote.
Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, called Haley a “genocidal lunatic.”
“Nikki Haley signed a bomb in Israel that’ll be dropped on Palestinians,” he said. “She wrote, ‘Finish Them!’ While mainstream media denounces Trump, they celebrate this genocidal lunatic since she’s neocon. As long as you’re for the establishment you can be as vicious and crazy as you like.”
“While Americans watch Israel burn Gaza alive, and Palestinian children are beheaded, Nikki Haley writes love notes on bombs that drop on civilians,” Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research President Omar Suleiman said. “Let the world bear witness to your moral depravity.”
Speaking with Israeli media, Haley urged Israel to “tune out the noise and finish the job.”
After stressing the need for Israel to invade Rafah, the enclave where most remaining Palestinians are crowded, she claimed Hamas was using international aid to feed and equip itself while giving little to the Palestinian people.
“This is not Israel’s job, to save the Palestinians,” Haley said. “The Palestinians should want to save themselves by getting rid of the terrorists who are trying to control them, who are using them as human shields.”

Palestinian authorities claimed the deadly fire that killed around 45 civilians and injured hundreds more earlier this week was started by an Israeli airstrike. Israeli authorities disputed this, claiming the fire was started by secondary explosions, possibly from Hamas weapons caches. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a rare apology over the strike, calling it a “tragic mistake.”
The strike has led to condemnations around the globe. It came just days after the International Criminal Court’s announcement of its intent to seek arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes committed during the war.
