Nikki Haley’s Argument Against Trump Falls Flat

During​ a speech in South Carolina late last month, Nikki Haley‍ made a bold statement about President Trump: “And the truth of it all — ⁤and this ‍is another⁢ hard⁣ truth — I believe President Trump was the right president at the ​right time. I was⁢ proud to serve ​America in his‍ administration, and‍ I agree with a ‍lot of ‍his ⁤policies. But the truth⁣ is, rightly or wrongly, ⁣chaos follows ‌him. You know ‍I’m right. ​Chaos follows him. ‌We have too much division in this country and too many threats around the world to be sitting in chaos once again.”

These were‍ not just ordinary remarks. Byron York, ⁣a political reporter who has recognized the significance of Haley’s statement, points out⁣ that she has been consistently using variations of the “chaos” line since October, and‍ it has become a regular part of ​her campaign speeches. However, Haley’s​ characterization of “chaos” completely misses the mark and fails to resonate with many Trump voters she needs to win ‌over. The true source of chaos during Trump’s presidency was not ‌his tweets, but rather the corrupt Washington establishment and administrative state that violated laws ⁢and⁢ norms to ​obstruct his policies and attempt to remove him from office. This corruption posed a grave threat to ⁣the ‌foundations of our republic.

Let’s review what the “chaos” in the Trump administration actually ⁢looked like.​ Even before Trump was elected, the FBI was investigating and wiretapping him, an ⁢investigation ‍that continued long after he took office. The ​FBI​ relied on‌ questionable sources, including a paid informant with a history of deception and a report from ‍Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.

The main contributor to that report, responsible​ for ​80% of its content, was a Russian national who had previously been investigated by ‌the FBI. It turns out this⁣ Russian obtained much of his information on Trump’s ties to⁣ Russia from a lawyer representing… Hillary Clinton. These revelations⁤ highlight ‌the deeply flawed nature of the investigation and‌ raise ⁤concerns about the manufacturing of evidence to spy on ​a ‍duly elected president.

Yet, the media treated this politically motivated investigation as⁢ a serious matter⁤ and even awarded themselves for reporting on a story that⁣ was fundamentally false. This false narrative​ dominated the news throughout Trump’s presidency ⁢and led⁣ to a⁣ two-year investigation that failed to⁤ substantiate any of⁤ the initial accusations. ⁣This was just ​the beginning of the chaos. We could also discuss the events surrounding the first Trump impeachment, the rise of censorship sponsored by federal agencies,‍ the endorsement‍ of violent‍ BLM riots by Democratic politicians, and the ⁣manipulation of elections by billionaires funding partisan organizations.

Clearly, the chaos was not solely caused by Trump. To suggest ‌otherwise is offensive to anyone who has been paying attention. Even ⁤Republicans like Haley seem to overlook⁣ the⁤ fact that all this​ chaos stemmed from influential individuals throwing tantrums ⁣because they couldn’t accept the results of the‍ 2016 election.

Acknowledging the unjust actions and damage inflicted​ during Trump’s presidency does not mean endorsing him. Figures ⁢like DeSantis and Ramaswamy ​have recognized the⁣ need to address the corruption exposed by Trump while condemning the subversion of American rights, norms, and laws that occurred during his presidency. It is telling how someone ⁤like‍ Biden, ‌who has lied about his ⁤own corruption,‌ is shielded from the chaos⁣ he himself instigated.

DeSantis and Ramaswamy have campaigned in a ‌way that acknowledges this ‌reality: American democracy is under threat from various forces ‍that will resort to violence and information‍ warfare to ​punish those who vote against their interests. Pretending that these insidious‍ forces only apply to​ Trump is naive. ⁣Exposing and holding them⁣ accountable is crucial to preventing‍ future chaos. The goal should be⁣ to amass ⁢enough power ⁤to counteract their influence and protect the integrity of our democracy.

If Haley’s strategy for winning‌ in 2024 is‍ to promise ⁣calm and normalcy by ignoring ‌recent history, it‌ suggests that she poses less of a ‌threat to the establishment than‌ other Republicans. While she may align more ‍with the⁣ military-industrial complex ‌on certain issues, it’s doubtful that voters want a candidate who denies the ⁣reality of ⁢what’s happening and is willing⁤ to appease these⁤ dangerous political forces. ​Haley should clarify her stance on the distinction between right and wrong in relation ⁤to Trump’s ‌presidency. There is ⁢a case to be made that Trump, despite his flaws, may not be the best candidate to address the corruption ⁣he himself faced. DeSantis and Ramaswamy ‌have made this argument‌ to varying degrees.

In contrast, Haley’s argument​ that removing ⁢Trump will eliminate chaos from politics only rewards those⁣ responsible for creating the chaos⁤ in the ​first ‌place.⁣ This rationale undermines her candidacy, which still seems⁤ to lack⁤ clear principles ⁤and purpose.
