Nikki Haley: Russian victory in Ukraine would be win for China
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has stated that she believes in defeating Russia in Ukraine to prevent Chinese aggression.
Haley wrote in the Wall Street Journal that she criticized Joe Biden and some GOP presidential candidates for not taking a tough stance on Russia in Ukraine. She argued that President Biden’s approach had encouraged Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and had failed to support Kyiv. As a result, the United States must sufficiently aid Ukraine to “repel” Russia, rather than only giving enough to “slow” them.
The former South Carolina governor also criticized Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for his statement that the war in Ukraine is just a “territorial dispute,” arguing that it is more than that. She stated that those who say the U.S. should ignore Ukraine, so it can focus on China, have it backward. Haley stressed that China would lose if Ukraine wins, therefor indicating that defeating Russia in Ukraine is essential to counteract Chinese and Russian powers in Europe, Asia, and worldwide.
She also argued that the United States could help Ukraine without having to send in troops and issue blank checks. Haley believes that a strong U.S. on the global stage is the best way to counteract China and Russia.
Haley announced her presidential bid in February, distinguishing herself from other 2024 contenders, including DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, who have both said the war in Ukraine is not a primary U.S. interest.
In the polls, Haley has fallen into third place among candidates for the 2024 presidential election, behind the top candidates, Trump and DeSantis.
