Nikki Haley criticizes RNC’s move to label Trump as ‘presumptive’ nominee
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley Fires Back at RNC’s Presumptive Nominee Plan
In response to a report that the Republican National Committee (RNC) is planning to declare former President Donald Trump the presumptive nominee for the 2024 election, Nikki Haley, former U.N. Ambassador, expressed her disagreement.
“Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders,” said Haley’s spokeswoman, Olivia Perez-Cubas.
“If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful, she can organize a debate in South Carolina, unless she’s also worried that Trump can’t handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley,” Perez-Cubas added.
The RNC did not provide a comment to the Washington Examiner.
Gordon Ackley, Chairman of the Republican Party in the Virgin Islands, also voiced his opinion on the matter, stating on Twitter, “The Virgin Islands will go ahead with the caucus on February 8. It is unfortunate other Republicans want to deny their voters the opportunity to be heard and cast a vote. Regardless of who you support, there is a process that must be followed.”
“It is unfortunate other Republicans want to deny their voters the opportunity to be heard and cast a vote. Regardless of who you support, there is a process that must be followed,” Ackley emphasized.
The RNC’s proposed resolution highlighted Trump’s victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, claiming that he has an “insurmountable lead” in all upcoming states, including a significant advantage in South Carolina.
The resolution also argued that there is no viable path for any other candidate and suggested that resources would be better allocated to the general election against President Joe Biden.
Following the New Hampshire primary, RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel faced criticism for urging Haley to suspend her campaign and for calling on the party to unite behind Trump.
One former RNC staffer took to social media, questioning the RNC’s involvement in primaries and suggesting that efforts should be focused on encouraging Trump to debate Haley and sign the RNC nominee loyalty pledge.

What other concerns do some Republicans, including Haley, have regarding the potential exclusion of other candidates in the nomination process
The country decide who our nominee will be,” said Haley. “It’s not the role of the RNC to predetermine our candidate. We should be focused on uniting our party and finding the best person to represent our values and principles.”
Haley’s comments come after the RNC reportedly discussed plans to officially declare Trump as the presumptive nominee, bypassing any potential primary challenges. The move, if implemented, would effectively exclude any other potential candidates from receiving support and funding from the party.
“Presumptively nominating someone without giving others a fair chance goes against the principles of democracy and fair competition,” Haley emphasized. “We should be encouraging healthy competition and providing an opportunity for all interested candidates to make their case.”
While Haley acknowledged Trump’s popularity within the Republican party, she maintained that the party’s decision should be made through a fair and democratic process. She believes that allowing Republican voters to have a say is crucial for the party’s unity and success in the long run.
“Holding open and fair primaries sends a strong message that we value the voices and choices of our party members,” Haley stated. “It also allows the candidate who ultimately receives the nomination to have a stronger mandate and broader support from our base.”
Haley’s stance puts her at odds with the RNC and some Republicans who strongly support Trump. However, she is not the only Republican to express concern over the potential exclusion of other candidates. Several prominent Republicans have also argued that an open primary would only strengthen the party and its chances in the general election.
“Limiting our options to one candidate risks alienating a significant portion of our own party members,” Haley warned. “We should be embracing different perspectives and ideas to ensure we have the strongest candidate to take on the Democrats.”
In addition to advocating for an open primary, Haley called for a focus on the future of the Republican party. She highlighted the importance of refining the party’s message, attracting diverse voters, and offering bold solutions to the nation’s challenges.
“Rather than dwelling on the past, we should be forward-thinking and forward-looking,” Haley asserted. “We have an opportunity to shape the future of our party and our country. It’s time to move beyond any one individual and build a strong, inclusive Republican party.”
As the 2024 election looms, the debate over the Republican party’s nominee is likely to intensify. While there may be differing opinions on the best path forward, Haley’s vocal opposition to the RNC’s proposed plan reflects a broader desire among some Republicans to prioritize fairness, unity, and the strengthening of the party’s democratic processes. Only time will tell whether the RNC and Republican voters will heed these concerns or choose to follow a different course.
