‘No change’ to Secret Service plans for RNC convention after shock Trump shooting

The Secret Service does not plan to make major changes to the Republican National Committee’s convention in Milwaukee this week after presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was shockingly shot on Saturday.

The law enforcement agency, which swiftly safeguarded Trump from the stage where he was shot on Saturday but has since come under scrutiny, said it was confident in its plans for the RNC.

Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the assistant special agent in charge of planning for the convention, said the Secret Service plans to move forward with its procedures for the convention, which will take place from Monday to Thursday.

Gibson-Cicchino said the convention was already given the highest possible designation for security, and plans were made beginning over a year ago. “We are fully prepared and have a comprehensive security plan in place and are ready to go,” she said during Sunday’s security briefing.

The FBI, which is leading intelligence for the convention, also said it has seen no known “specific and articulated threats” against the convention or anyone attending the event.

Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, though he was described as “fine” after being treated at a nearby hospital. A spectator was killed in the shooting, and two others were critically wounded.

The shooting is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt of the former president, as well as a possible domestic terrorist attack.
