‘No Evidence Any Agent Struck Migrant’: Report Clears Border Patrol Of Whipping Migrants
Border Patrol agents on horseback never whipped any Haitian migrants, according to a memo from Customs and Border Protection commissioner Chris Magnus.
“There is no evidence any agent struck—intentionally or otherwise—any migrant with their reins,” the memo, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, states. Magnus blames any mistreatment of migrants on a “lack of command and control” within Border Patrol.
The investigation’s conclusions come months after a media-driven campaign that alleged Border Patrol agents abused Haitian migrants during a border surge in September 2021. Democrats, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris accused BP agents of whipping and attacking the migrants.
“A thorough investigation was done despite comments or criticisms made by anyone in the media,” Magnus writes. “Not everyone will agree with the findings, but the investigation was comprehensive and fair.”
