No KC Chiefs miracle: Most say refs rig games

Kansas City’s Cardiac Chiefs might not be this season’s NFL miracle after all.

In fact, fans might think their real nickname is the “Cheatin’ Chiefs.”

After a year of some pretty stunning upsets, a new Super Bowl survey out Thursday afternoon found that more than not believe that the National Football League’s referees have rigged games.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets said that 45% believe games were rigged. Just 36% said they weren’t. Men more than women and Republicans more than Democrats felt there was rigging.

Here is their analysis of the survey:

“Former NFL great Terrell Owens is the latest to claim that league officials have favored the Chiefs, who are seeking their third consecutive Lombardi Trophy. Forty-five percent (45%) of Americans believe NFL officials are rigging the outcomes of games, including 18% who say it’s very likely. Thirty-six percent (36%) don’t think NFL games are being rigged by officials, including 14% who say it’s not at all likely. Another 20% are not sure.”

And maybe that’s why voters surveyed picked the Chiefs over the Philadelphia Eagles by a wider margin than the current odds that show Kansas City squeaking out a win.

Rasmussen found that by a big margin of 44%-24%, the Chiefs are favored to win.

And as for predictions of the biggest viewership ever of the Super Bowl, 51% plan to watch the game, while 33% don’t. If that comes true, an estimated 133 million adults will watch, shattering last year’s record of about 125 million.

Many eyes will be on the lookout for singer Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Travis Kelce of the Chiefs. Others hope to catch a glimpse of President Donald Trump, the first president to attend a Super Bowl.
