Ruth Wilson criticizes Hollywood as ‘fickle’ and lacking moral principles.

Actress Ruth Wilson Slams Hollywood’s Hypocrisy and #MeToo Movement

British star Ruth Wilson

has called out Hollywood’s “fickle” nature and lack of moral backbone. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the 41-year-old actress expressed her shock at how the entertainment industry initially ignored sexual abuses by disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein because he knew “how to get people Oscars.”

Wilson attended meetings during the height of the #MeToo movement and was disappointed by the industry’s hypocrisy. “People were like, ‘We’re going to have a meeting about how badly we’ve behaved and then we’ll all be fine,'” she said.

The Affair star also criticized the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) during the Weinstein-era, saying that the whole industry was complicit in protecting the powerful. “If there’s a problem, it needs to be dealt with, not put under NDA so you can’t speak about it,” she said.

Wilson herself is under an NDA and still refuses to talk about the reason she walked away from the Showtime series The Affair in 2018 over its alleged “hostile work environment.”

The actress believes that the #MeToo movement was significant because it was unraveling the industry’s complicity in protecting the powerful. “It made me understand a whole swath of human behavior,” she said. “So many people don’t really believe anything – only what makes them money… They’re opportunists.”

Wilson’s comments serve as a reminder that the entertainment industry still has a long way to go in terms of accountability and transparency. It’s time for Hollywood to take a hard look at itself and make the necessary changes to ensure a safe and equitable workplace for all.
