‘No Such Thing As Other People’s Children’: Progressive Group Slammed For Creepy Attack On Florida’s Parental Rights Bill
The progressive group “Together Rising” is being slammed for its creepy attack on Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill and for its point-blank admission that they view other people’s kids as something society should control. While it may seem like a new development, observers have been warning for several years the Left’s assault on the traditional family unit is explicitly linked to indoctrinating children with their progressive political agenda.
On Tuesday, the group shared a social media graphic, fear-mongering that the bill — incorrectly branded the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” by the Left — would harm children. As The Daily Wire has previously reported, what the bill would actually do is ban teachers from instructing students in kindergarten through third grade on topics relating to sexual orientation and gender, among other things designed to protect children and increase parental rights and transparency.
Nonetheless, Together Rising pledged to provide financial support to LGBTQIA2s+ groups in Florida because “there’s no such thing as other people’s children.”
In a statement on its website titled “We Say Gay,” the group in part alleged that across the country children’s rights are being assaulted (emphasis added):
We know that the rights and safety of these precious children are being attacked not just in Florida and Texas but all across the country.
We stand with them and the LGBTQ+ community, and we will keep investing in these kids and their families.
Because there’s no such thing as other people’s children.
As a result, they are donating $150,000 to a number of groups, including, Compass Community Center, which is “a queer-led, deeply-respected community center in Palm Beach County that serves LGBTQ+ youth, starting at age 3.”
“From mental and physical health services, to peer support groups, to HIV prevention, they are caring for youth in an all encompassing way,” Together Rising claimed. “Recently, they hosted the superintendent of Palm Beach County Schools and LGBTQ+ youth who shared their stories of their experience in schools with him.”
The group also tweeted an abbreviated version of that statement.
In response, Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis’ spokesperson Christina Pushaw pushed back, remarking, “Saying the quiet part out loud: ‘there’s no such thing as other people’s children.’”
“Communists don’t believe in parental rights,” Pushaw added. “Democrats are following their lead.”

But that is only the latest instance of progressives admitting that their main goal is to create a parentless society.
Several years ago, The Heritage Foundation’s Jarrett Stepman attended the annual “Socialism 2019” conference in Chicago, Illinois, and found that these admitted socialists were also openly admitting their disdain for traditional families as being the ultimate impediment to their long-term goals.
He detailed several speakers, including one on a panel titled “Social Reproduction Theory and Gender Liberation.”
“What’s clear from my observations at Socialism 2019 is that traditional Marxists have successfully melded their ideology with the identity politics and culture war issues that animate modern liberalism—despite still being quite far from the beliefs of the average citizen,” Stepman concluded.
Now, in 2022, it is clear that the Left is becoming more brazen in their culture war attacks with more mainstream believers. Together Rising was founded by New York Times Best-selling author Glennon Doyle, as well as her partner, U.S. Olympian Amy Wambach. The couple is adored in mainstream media and Doyle’s memoir is set to become a made for TV movie. Doyle has nearly two million followers on Instagram.
In February, The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro warned on his podcast, The Ben Shapiro Show, that the Left’s opposition to the bill was not about bullying or protecting children at all, rather, what the Left wants “is teachers and administrators to be able to indoctrinate your kids in these values.” Shapiro explained further:
The left strategy always is to grab a hold of the public school system and then indoctrinate kids into what they ought to believe about this stuff against their parents, by the way, in direct opposition to their parents and then to claim that their freedom of speech is somehow being silenced. Again, your freedom of speech as a teacher is of very little consequence when it comes to the curricula that are mandated by school districts across the nation.
You don’t have the ability to just go into the classroom as a teacher and then speak freely on any topic you choose. That is not your job.
[…]
When a parent delegates the power to teach their kid, they’re not delegating the power for the teacher to completely override their value system
and teach their kids a bunch of unscientifically based gender identity garbage.”
The Parental Rights in Education bill is expected to be signed by DeSantis, who has so far not bowed to pressure from the Left or economic pressure.
