Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota, a possible VP contender for former President Donald Trump, revealed unsettling tales in her book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” She detailed putting down her 14-month-old dog and a goat, showcasing her readiness to confront difficult choices, no matter how challenging or disagreeable they may be.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), a potential running mate for former President Donald Trump, described several gruesome tales in her new book, which included stories of killing her dog and goat.
The book, titled No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, includes a story of how she put down her 14-month-old puppy, named Cricket, because the dog killed a local family’s chickens after a pheasant hunting trip and bit her when she tried to stop it. The story was supposed to show how Noem would do anything “messy and ugly” when it comes to politics and otherwise.
She described how the dog ruined the previous hunt by “chasing all those birds and having the time of her life.” Noem said she “hated that dog,” and deemed it “less than worthless” for being unable to properly hunt.
So she took her gun, led the dog to a gravel pit, and shot Cricket. Bizarrely, this led Noem to decide to also kill her goat, which she said stunk and was “nasty and mean.”
“It was not a pleasant job,” she writes, “but it had to be done. And after it was over, I realized another unpleasant job needed to be done.”
She dragged the goat to the same gravel pit, but in the process of putting her goat down, she missed the shot as it jumped and needed to retrieve another shell to finish the task. Then, Noem “put him down.”
Unbeknownst to her, a construction crew had watched her kill both animals, but she said they went back to work quickly, and it was then that her daughter arrived at home and asked where Cricket was.
“Kennedy looked around confused,” Noem writes of her daughter, who asked: “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

Noem admitted if she “were a better politician I wouldn’t tell the story here.” But the story seemed to only add to the ammunition of her detractors.
Noem confirmed the story in a post on Friday, seemingly responding by further advertising her book.
