North America’s record-breaking Giga Coaster closes due to shocking visitor observation.
A Shocking Observation Leads to Closure of North America’s ‘Tallest, Fastest, Longest Giga Coaster’
A massive North Carolina roller coaster was closed on Friday after a visitor made a startling discovery. While riding the Fury 325 at the Carowinds amusement park, Jeremy Wagner noticed a crack in a support beam. Little did he know that this was just the beginning of a larger story.
Word quickly spread about the closure of Fury 325, and another visitor came forward with images that showed the same crack six days prior to the roller coaster being shut down.
Fury 325, as described by Carowinds, is the “tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America.” A giga coaster is a complete circuit roller coaster between 300 and 399 feet in height or with a drop within those boundaries, according to coasterpedia.net.
Wagner, a resident of Conover, North Carolina, captured a video of the crack and reported it to park security. He expressed his relief that the ride was closed, as he didn’t want to see any accidents occur during the park’s 50th anniversary and the upcoming 4th of July weekend.

Following the closure, Tiffany Collins Newton, a woman from Shelby, North Carolina, shared photos she had taken during a visit to the park on June 24. These photos showed the crack in the support beam, suggesting that it had been present for several days before the closure.
Despite the incident, Newton took a philosophical approach, emphasizing that accidents can happen in various aspects of life and that roller coasters should not be dismissed as “death traps.” She expressed her hope for more thorough inspections in the future to prevent similar incidents.
The park’s maintenance team is currently conducting a thorough inspection, and Fury 325 will remain closed until repairs are completed. Carowinds spokeswoman Courtney Weber assured guests that safety is their top priority and thanked them for their patience during this process.
While the closure of Fury 325 may have caused disappointment among thrill-seekers, many are eagerly awaiting its reopening and looking forward to creating more wonderful memories on this iconic roller coaster.
