North Carolina Education Group Launches ‘Schoolhouse Shock’ Program To Document Extremism In The Classroom
A North Carolina advocacy group launched a whistleblower program to gather reported incidents of discrimination, harassment, and abuse by public school officials.
On Monday, Education First Alliance unveiled its “Schoolhouse Shock” program. “Schoolhouse Shock” allows parents and students to send in anonymous tips about inappropriate race-based curriculum or commentary made in public school classrooms.
Sloan Rachmuth, the organization’s president, said that she hopes the program will provide “accountability” for public schools and public school teachers in the age of “identity politics.”
“We named our program ‘Schoolhouse Shock’ because it is shocking that schools have gone from being a cocoon where children could happily develop to a divisive cauldron where playing the game of identity politics reigns supreme,” Rachmuth said in a press release. “Parents are equally frustrated at the lack of transparency and accountability for what is being taught in North Carolina’s schools.”
The Education First Alliance is asking whistleblowers to submit verifiable information about school malpractice or wrongdoings to the group’s website. The website acts as a non-governmental version of North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s “FACTS” tipline.
Robinson launched a task force called Fairness and Accountability in the Classroom for Teachers and Students (FACTS) to monitor conditions of “anti-racism” curriculum within North Carolina classrooms. The expressed purpose of the task force is to expose indoctrination in schools. Similar to the Education First Alliance, parents and students can submit complaints to the government.
In light of the “anti-racist” movement permeating America’s public school system, North Carolina public schools have begun teaching “critical race theory” — the theory that America is irredeemably rooted in racism — in the classroom.
North Carolina’s largest school district, Wake County Public School System, which services the greater Raleigh area, encouraged teachers to ignore white parent’s concerns about “critical race theory” curriculum because “white parent’s children are benefiting from the system.” The school district held a slew of equity training sessions that taught teachers how to include “critical race theory” into classroom lessons.
Similar whistleblower systems have been created on a larger, national scale. Earlier this year, Cornell law professor William Jacobson unveiled a website dedicated to tracking the rise of critical race theory at colleges across the nation.
The Daily Wire reported:
CriticalRace.org is a resource for parents and students to examine the impact and scope of critical race theory on higher education institutions. The website claims to be “the most comprehensive database” of its kind. It currently tracks 200 schools, though Jacobson told The Daily Wire it will likely expand to monitoring 500 schools in the coming months.
The newfound national parent advocacy group “Parents Defending Education” has created a similar multimedia map called “IndoctriNation,” which documents incidents of radicalization in classrooms across the nation.
Parents Defending Education also offers a membership program aimed at teaching parents how to not only document “abuses and extremism” in their schools, but how they can “begin exercising influence and oversight” and create real change within their school.
