North Carolina Passes Citizens-Only Voting Amendment
North Carolina voters are expected to have approved a constitutional amendment that stipulates that only U.S. citizens can vote in elections. Preliminary results indicate that over 75% of voters support the measure, which was previously passed by the state’s Republican-controlled legislature. This amendment confirms the requirement that voters must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and meet existing eligibility criteria for voting in North Carolina.
Similar initiatives are on the ballots of other states, including Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Idaho. The push for such amendments is driven by concerns over foreign influence in elections and attempts by Democrats to extend voting rights to non-citizens. Instances in some cities, like San Francisco, have allowed non-citizens to vote in local elections, sparking debate over electoral integrity.
The article notes prominent Democrats advocating for non-citizen voting rights, emphasizing ongoing tensions around immigration policy and electoral laws. As the situation unfolds, the article stresses the significance of these amendments for the future of voting rights in the United States.
North Carolina voters are projected to have passed a constitutional amendment specifying that only U.S. citizens can vote in elections.
As of this article’s publication, preliminary results show the amendment with more than 75 percent of support from voters. The New York Times projected the proposal’s passage.
As The Federalist previously reported, the amendment stipulates that “only a citizen of the United States” who is 18 years old and meets existing voter eligibility requirements may vote in elections held in the Tar Heel State. The measure was sent to voters for approval after it was passed by the state’s Republican-controlled House (99-12) and Senate (40-4) earlier this year.
Other states to have similar initiatives on their respective 2024 ballots include Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Idaho.
Efforts to prevent aliens from influencing American elections come amid Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border and increasing concerns that foreign nationals could exploit existing federal loopholes to interfere in America’s electoral system.
Despite attempts by their media allies to downplay such worries, Democrats have openly pushed for granting foreign nationals the ability to vote in U.S. elections. From blue cities permitting aliens to vote in their elections to elected leftists fighting efforts to repeal such policies, Democrats have made it abundantly clear where they stand on the problem.
Blue cities such as San Francisco, for example, permit some aliens — even those who are illegally present — to vote in school board races. In San Francisco, foreign nationals can even run elections: In February, the city’s board of supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Kelly Wong, a foreign national from Hong Kong, to the city’s Elections Commission. The commission is a “seven-member civilian body that oversees and creates policy for the city’s Department of Elections,” according to local media.
Despite their media acolytes’ best attempts to downplay these matters, Democrats such as Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin have publicly advocated for granting voting rights to foreign nationals. Fox News reported in May that Raskin authored a paper for the American University Washington College of Law in 1993, in which he defended “Alien Suffrage.”
