Get ready for a new contender in the race for the White House! North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is expected to join the likes of former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election, according to Reuters.
A Tech Entrepreneur Turned Politician
Burgum, who is currently serving his second term in office, is no stranger to success. He won reelection in 2020 with over two-thirds of voters casting their ballots in his favor. Before entering politics, Burgum was a tech entrepreneur who sold his company to Microsoft Corp in 2001, according to Reuters.
A Record of Conservative Accomplishments
Burgum has been making waves in the Republican party with his conservative policies. In April, he signed one of the nation’s strictest anti-abortion laws and North Dakota’s largest income tax cut in state history, following in the footsteps of fellow Republican governors.
Other Contenders in the GOP Presidential Field
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum isn’t the only Republican eyeing the White House in 2024. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is also in the running, polling at 4% in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from May 9-15.
