North Korea Claims To Have Tested New ICBM Designed To Hit U.S. Mainland: Report
North Korea has claimed that it has tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. The Hwasong-18, a solid-fueled missile, was launched a day before the announcement, causing residents of northern Japan to seek shelter. Experts believe that this latest test represents a significant development in North Korea’s nuclear arsenal, with the use of solid-fuel a key advancement in the stability of missiles. Joseph Dempsey, a research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said that the addition of solid-fuel ICBMs to the missile force would make it more credible, providing a more capable, less vulnerable shield. Although significant, nuclear policy expert Ankit Panda said he was not sure this test represented a game changer.
