The rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is underway, which is two years after it was destroyed in a fire.

Drone video shows crews hauling oak tree logs to a saw mill, where they will be processed into timber for the restoration. The logs will be used to rebuild the base of the spire, which collapsed as flames engulfed the centuries-old cathedral in 2019.

A forestry technician who visited Notre Dame moments before it caught fire said he’s happy to be part of the rebuilding effort.

“I saw it two hours before it burned…I was visiting it with my children and while taking the train back, we learned that the Notre Dame was at the moment burning,” recounted Anthony Jeanneau of the the National Forestry Office. “It was an unfortunate combination of circumstances.”

French President Emmanuel Macron has set a goal to have Notre Dame restored by 2024 when Paris is set to host the Summer Olympics.
