NRCC delivers controversial T-shirt to Tlaib, ignites backlash
The National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson caused outrage at Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s office by delivering a “F*** Hamas” T-shirt. The incident occurred before a vote on the Antisemitism Awareness Act, aiming to combat antisemitism on college campuses. The NRCC also visited other “Squad” member offices, sparking controversy. The NRCC spokesperson stirred controversy at Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s office with a “F*** Hamas” T-shirt delivery. This occurred prior to the Antisemitism Awareness Act vote targeting campus antisemitism. The NRCC’s visits to other “Squad” members’ offices also fueled disputes.
A spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee said it sparked outrage at Rep. Rashida Tlaib‘s (D-MI) congressional office when they dropped off a “F*** Hamas” T-shirt on Wednesday morning ahead of the vote on the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act, a bill that supporters say help combat antisemitism on college campuses.
In a video given to the Washington Examiner by the NRCC, an unidentified female NRCC staffer is seen knocking on Tlaib’s congressional office door and handing a shirt to a staffer in her office. The staffer responds with a “thank you” and closes the door.
An NRCC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that after leaving Tlaib’s office, the female staffer waited for the elevator and a member of Tlaib’s office, who she believed to be Michael Cobb, came running down the hall after her, repeatedly screaming, “Excuse me! Where are you from? That was very rude!”
The female NRCC staffer grabbed her phone to record Cobb.
“What did we do that was rude?” the NRCC staffer is heard asking him as he turned back to his office upon realizing she was recording him. “It’s a terrorist organization. Do you agree with Hamas?”
“Extreme House Democrats think it’s ‘rude’ to insult their favorite terror organization and the inspiration for the antisemitic campus protests they all support,” NRCC national press secretary Will Reinert said to the Washington Examiner. “It’s clear they’ll always side with Hamas over Jewish students’ safety.”
The NRCC also dropped off the “F*** Hamas” T-shirt at the other House Democratic “Squad” member offices, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The NRCC began selling the shirt on April 24 as a fundraiser to help Republican congressional campaigns.
Tlaib and other Squad members have been criticized for their comments and support of the pro-Palestinian protesters on college campuses across the country.
On Wednesday afternoon, Tlaib slammed the “militarized police” stopping students from exercising their First Amendment rights in protesting the Israel-Hamas war on their college campuses.
“I am deeply concerned about the escalating repression of First Amendment-protected speech and assembly on college campuses across our country,” she said on the House floor.
She added that she was moved by the “courageous young people at college encampments” demanding divestment from Israel, which is “in support of a genocide in Gaza” and has an “apartheid government.”

The House passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act on Wednesday in a 320-91 vote. The bill would mandate the “definition of antisemitism set forth by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance for the enforcement of Federal anti-discrimination laws concerning education programs or activities.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to Tlaib’s office for comment about the incident.
