Nvidia and India’s Reliance join forces for AI apps and language models.
Chip Firm Nvidia and Reliance Partner to Revolutionize AI in India
By Munsif Vengattil
In an exciting collaboration, U.S. chip firm Nvidia and India’s Reliance have joined forces to create groundbreaking AI language models and generative apps for millions of telecom users in India.
Nvidia will provide the computing power required for these groundbreaking efforts, while Reliance’s unit Jio will manage and maintain the AI cloud infrastructure and oversee customer engagement, ensuring a seamless experience for users.
“Reliance will create AI applications and services for their 450 million Jio (telecom) customers and provide energy-efficient AI infrastructure to scientists, developers, and startups across India,” stated Nvidia.
Nvidia has established a near-monopoly globally in the computing systems used to power services like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular generative AI chatbot. These AI-powered apps, known as large language models, can generate human-like responses based on text prompts.
Reliance aims to accelerate various key AI projects in India, including chatbots, drug discovery, climate research, and more, through this new AI infrastructure. Additionally, they will focus on creating AI applications that cater to Indian regional languages, such as an app that can interact with farmers to provide weather information and crop prices.
Excitingly, Reuters recently reported that Reliance is also considering venturing into chip manufacturing in India, further expanding its technological capabilities.
