NY Times Claims Balenciaga Scandal Is Just a Right-Wing Conspiracy Theory
The New York Times attempted to dilute the Balenciaga scandal in a piece that appeared to reduce the entire thing to just a right-wing conspiracy theory.
According to the report, the idea that the luxury fashion brand condones child exploitation is only suggested by the likes of QAnon, Tucker Carlson, Fox News, and The New York Post.
The NY Times writes:
“They ignited a firestorm that traveled from the internet to Fox News, fueled by allegations that Balenciaga condoned child exploitation.”
“The controversy has become one of the most explicit collisions of internet culture, politics, fashion and conspiracy theories to date.”
“As online criticism of the campaigns spread, the story was picked up across right-leaning media outlets, including The New York Post and the prime-time Fox News show Tucker Carlson Tonight. The show has helped to publicize and mainstream QAnon, the internet conspiracy theory that a group of Satan-worshiping elites who run a child sex ring are trying to control our politics and media.’”
The report adds:
“Here you have a major international retail brand promoting kiddie porn and sex with children,” Mr. Carlson told viewers on Nov. 22, “and not promoting it subtly but right out in the open.”

Here is a reminder of the shoot in question:
Balenciaga apologized for the BDSM bears in the campaign:
“We would like to address the controversies surrounding our recent ad campaigns. We strongly condemn child abuse; it was never our intent to include it in our narrative. “
“The two separate ad campaigns in question reflect a series of grievous errors for which Balenciaga takes responsibility,” they said.
“The first campaign, the gift collection campaign, featured children with plush bear bags dressed in what some have labelled BDMS-inspired outfits.”
“Our plush bear bags and the gift collection should not have been featured with children.”
