NYC Mayor to Trump Supporters: ‘Control Yourselves’
Eric Adams Calls for Trump Supporters to Behave During Protests
New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D.) warned supporters of former President Donald Trump about protesting in the city today. “Control yourselves,” Adams urged, admitting that the city is not aware of any specific threat. Supporters have already gathered outside Trump Tower in anticipation of his arraignment on Tuesday, where he is expected to face charges relating to alleged hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Adams emphasized that New York City is “the safest large city in America” due to its adherence to the rule of law. However, crime has risen by 22% in 2021, including burglaries, grand larcenies, and felony assaults, during Adams’s term in office. The rising number of store robberies has resulted in Adams encouraging owners to ban face masks that conceal the identities of the criminals. As a result, police officers are fleeing the city due to the “unfixable” crime epidemic.
Adams issued a warning that the city will not tolerate violence or vandalism of any kind during the Trump supporters’ protests. “New York City is our home, not a playground for your misplaced anger,” he said. Adams further advised pro-Trump Republican politicians Greene and Banks, who are expected to attend the protest, to behave in a dignified manner during their stay.
Lastly, last month New York City agreed to pay millions in compensation to Black Lives Matter demonstrators who were confined by police during the George Floyd protests of June 2020.
