NYPD arrest intruder sneaking into Mayor Eric Adams’s mansion

The New York Police Department arrested a 20-year-old man they say was caught sneaking into Gracie Mansion, the residence of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Michael Aromando was spotted at 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday, just a few hours after the city celebrated its annual New Year’s Eve celebration. NYPD personnel assigned to the mansion’s security detail spotted the intruder, who took him into custody following an investigation, the NYPD confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

Aromando has since been charged with attempted burglary in the second degree.

The mayor’s office further confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Adams was not in Gracie Mansion at the time of the intrusion.

Upon his arrest, Aromando carried a Christmas ornament he had taken from the residence. A judge has since set his bail at $5,000 and also imposed an 11 p.m. curfew, according to local outlet Fox 5.

The intrusion into Adams’s mansion comes as the mayor is facing an investigation by the Department of Justice, though he insisted on his innocence and also said the investigation is “clearly suspect to me.” In discussing this investigation and his indictment with Dr. Phil last month, Adams vowed to fight to the “bitter end for this city.”
