NYPD seeks suspect in 3 subway attacks within 17 minutes.

Three Women Attacked in a Series of Subway Incidents

On Sunday afternoon, a series of terrifying attacks occurred within a span of just 17 minutes on the New York City subway system. The police are currently investigating these incidents and believe that they are related.

According to the New York Post, the first attack took place around 4:20 PM at the 86th Street and Lexington Avenue station. Two women were targeted in this incident, and one of them did not know her attacker. Distressed and in tears, she sought help from a Metropolitan Transportation Authority worker who promptly called the police.

“The girl came up to my booth to call the cops,” the worker said. “She was crying. She didn’t know the person. She said the person just walked up to her and slashed her for no reason. Then I got the police here.”

Although it remains unclear which of the two women was injured, both suffered leg slashes. The victims, aged 19 and 48, were left traumatized by the incident.

The second attack occurred at the Brooklyn Bridge / City Hall station. The victim, a 28-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries to her leg and required a tourniquet. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but fortunately, her injuries were not life-threatening.

These attacks, which took place in Manhattan, have raised concerns among the police. The proximity of the incidents and their similarities have led them to believe that there is a connection between them, as reported by WABC-TV.

Nicholas Altobelli, who witnessed the first attack, drew attention to a similar incident that occurred in 2020. He expressed his concern about the persistence of such violent acts and emphasized the need to address this issue urgently.

“It’s just clear that if this happened two years ago and we’re still dealing with this now, I mean, that’s a really, really vicious thing to happen, and something we’ve really got to clean up,” he said.

Sazan Thapa, another individual working in the area, called for an increased police presence in the subway stations. Thapa believes that more officers should be deployed to ensure the safety of commuters, particularly at the 4/5/6 stations.

According to the Post, arrests for possession of an illegal knife in the subway system have increased by 126 percent over the past four years. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for action to address the issue of weapons in the subway.

Police have released surveillance footage of a man they wish to question in connection with the attacks. The suspect is described as having short black hair, brown eyes, standing at 5’8″ tall, and weighing approximately 220 lbs. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue pants, black sneakers, and a black baseball cap with a red letter “B” on the front.

It is important to note that the summary provided by WABC-TV inexplicably omitted the fact that the suspect is a black male, which is clearly visible in the surveillance video.

If you have any information that could assist the police in their investigation, please contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
