The Oakland Athletics have announced the team will be moving to Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California, for the 2025-27 seasons.
The A’s time in West Sacramento is only a pit stop in the team’s relocation to Las Vegas, anticipated to take place ahead of the 2028 season, according to a report.
The team plays at the Oakland Coliseum, but the A’s lease with the city will expire at the end of this season.
A deal to extend the team’s time in Oakland, where the A’s have played since 1968, until the final move to Las Vegas fell through, according to team owner John Fisher.
“We explored several locations for a temporary home, including the Oakland Coliseum,” Fisher said in a statement. “Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach.”
“We understand the disappointment this news brings to our fans, as this season marks our final one in Oakland,” he added. “Throughout this season, we will honor and celebrate our time in Oakland, and will share additional details soon.”
The A’s announced the team’s move to Las Vegas last year, and the team will settle in Sin City once a new stadium is finished.
“We extend our appreciation to the Kings and the City of West Sacramento, and look forward to making Sutter Health Park our home until our new ballpark opens in Las Vegas,” Fisher said.

A series of artificial intelligence renderings of the new ballpark shows what the 33,000-seat facility will look like.
Inspired by baseball pennants and canopied by a five-tier roof, the designs have drawn comparisons to the famous Sydney Opera House.
