Company Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick released a statement saying that the store was profitable, but that regular car break-ins, property damage, theft, as well as armed robberies of customers and employees led to the decision to shut it down.

“We are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years, and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our Associates and their families,” Warwick said. “Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our Customers and Associates – we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment.”

Although there are not any other In-N-Out locations in Oakland, there’s 16 other establishments nearby in the Bay Area.

Violent crime records from 2019 through 2023 have averaged a 17% increase. Between 2022 and 2023, there was a 21% increase in violent crimes in Oakland and a 14% rise in the general area where the restaurant is located.

The San Francisco Chronicle‘s data revealed 1,174 car break-ins, two commercial burglaries, four incidents of domestic violence, and nine robberies at the business.

In-N-Out employees have been informed and given the opportunity to relocate. The location will close down on March 24th
