OceanGate announced the suspension of all exploration and commercial operations after the devastating implosion of their Titan submersible, resulting in the loss of all five crew members.

The company made the announcement on their website, stating, “OceanGate has suspended all exploration and commercial operations.”

On June 18th, the Titan submersible went missing during a deep-sea voyage to the Titanic. It was later discovered that the submersible imploded approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes into its descent, tragically claiming the lives of all crew members.

OceanGate had offered tickets priced at $250,000 for individuals to visit the iconic Titanic wreckage. However, legal experts suggest that the families of the victims may not have a legal avenue for pursuing compensation.

During the search for the missing submersible, debris including the tail cone was found on the ocean floor, approximately 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic. The U.S. Coast Guard also discovered “presumed human remains” along with the debris.

The Marine Board of Investigation, in collaboration with the Coast Guard, is conducting further analysis and testing on the evidence recovered from the scene.

“There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of the TITAN and help ensure a similar tragedy does not occur again,” said Marine Board of Investigation Chair Capt. Jason Neubauer.

Prior to this incident, OceanGate had successfully completed over 14 expeditions and 200 dives. Last year alone, 28 individuals had the opportunity to visit the Titanic with the company’s submersible.
