An active shooter was killed after shots were fired at the San Antonio International Airport. According to reports, police said they received a call of a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road at Terminal B. A Park Police officer, who was working overtime at the airport, then confronted the driver.

Police stated the suspect then jumped out of the vehicle and began firing at the Park Police officer and into the terminal behind him, as well. The officer returned fire and the suspect, whose name has not yet been disclosed, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officials have said they have a history with the suspect and believe mental health issues may have played a factor.

“The officer who stopped this saved a lot of lives because this guy had a full box of ammunition,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said. “He had a .45 caliber handgun that he was shooting in the direction of the terminal at the police officer, and behind him indiscriminately.”

Officials said the lower level of the airport will remain closed as they look further into a possible motive.
