Oh: Nobody cares who Trump picks for running mate – Washington Examiner

The‍ article discusses how‍ Republicans favor ⁢Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential running mate. However, both Republicans and Democrats largely believe that Trump’s choice of running⁢ mate will not significantly impact‌ the outcome of ⁣Election Day. This sentiment was reflected in a survey by Rasmussen Reports, where ‌a majority from both political parties indicated that the VP pick would ⁣not make much of a difference. Specifically, 82% ⁤of Republicans and ‍81% of Democrats felt that the choice of a running mate for Trump was inconsequential. Only 12% of likely voters from both parties thought that the ‍VP selection would ⁤have an effect on the election results, regardless of ⁤the significant media attention the topic has received.

Republicans continue to prefer Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as former President Donald Trump’s running mate but said it won’t matter on Election Day. The reason: It’s all about Trump.

Republicans and Democrats were nearly identical in telling Rasmussen Reports that Trump’s pick won’t make “much of a difference” on Election Day.

Some 82% of Republicans dismissed the much-hyped pick, as did 81% of Democrats.

In fact, just 12% of Republican and Democratic likely voters said Trump’s pick would make a difference on Election Day.

That may sound surprising considering all the focus the media have put on Trump’s choice. The former president plans to announce his selection at the Republican National Convention, though there was one report this week that he could name his choice on Wednesday or Thursday, before his debate with President Joe Biden.

Trump’s campaign mocked that NBC report, and it would seem odd to name his choice and compete in the news cycle with the debate, which Trump expects to win and brag about.

Vice presidential picks often don’t add more than 1%-2% to a presidential candidate’s vote, though they can make voting groups feel good or bad about candidates. When Trump chose former Indiana Gov. Mike Pence in 2016, for example, it signaled he would respect conservative and evangelical views.

Still, Republicans have long said they want DeSantis on the ticket. His presidential campaign fizzled fast and never caught steam. However, he is viewed by Republicans as a top conservative leader and likely 2028 presidential candidate.

In the survey, DeSantis was the choice of 23% of Republicans. “Not sure” and “Some Other Candidate” combined for 21%

The second choice of Republicans, at 14%, was Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and third was former Trump Cabinet secretary Ben Carson at 10%. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) tied for fourth at 8%.

The survey, shared with Secrets, did not include former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, a former candidate, who is often listed by Republicans in the top five for running mates. But when Rasmussen polled separately on her, she did not move the needle for Trump.
