Ohio GOP Senate candidate Matt Dolan has $3.9M available for campaign after Q2.

Ohio Republican Senate Candidate Matt Dolan Builds Impressive War Chest for Primary Season

Ohio Republican Senate candidate Matt Dolan is gearing up for a fiercely contested primary season with an impressive $3.9 million on hand after the second quarter of the year.

According to Federal Election Commission records, Dolan, an Ohio state senator and successful businessman, raised $308,511 in the second quarter and generously donated $1 million to his own campaign. In total, he has contributed a staggering $4 million to his campaign.

Businessman Bernie Moreno Outraises Dolan in Latest Quarter

Despite Dolan’s substantial war chest, fellow candidate Bernie Moreno, a prominent businessman, has significantly outraised him this quarter.

Moreno recently announced that he raised an impressive $2.2 million this quarter, excluding loans. At the time of this article, Moreno had not yet filed with the FEC.

Two Wealthy Businessmen Compete for Republican Nomination

Both Dolan and Moreno have the financial means to self-fund their campaigns, given their wealth and successful business backgrounds. They are both vying for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who has held the seat for a considerable amount of time.

Brown, a seasoned politician, has significantly outraised both Dolan and Moreno this quarter, amassing an impressive $5 million and currently holding $8.7 million in his campaign coffers.

Ohio Senate Race: A Crucial Battleground

The Ohio Senate race is considered a toss-up by the Cook Political Report and is a top priority for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in his quest to regain control of the Senate.

Dolan and Moreno’s Previous Senate Bids

In 2022, both Dolan and Moreno ran for the open U.S. Senate seat in Ohio. Dolan secured a third-place finish in the primary, trailing behind Josh Mandel and now-Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). Moreno, on the other hand, withdrew from the primary race after a private conversation with former President Donald Trump.

Additionally, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is expected to enter the race soon. LaRose has been teasing a potential bid on social media and recently shared a picture of an FEC “Statement of Organization” form with the filing date set for July 15.
